50 States Project (SPI 5.3.6)

Ladies and gentlemen, we are almost finished! The only remaining SPI that we will have to cover for this school year is SPI 5.3.6. This SPI deals with simply being able to locate the 50 states on a map. I have decided to use a research project to introduce this material. Also, we will be using information from the NCAA tournament to practice locating each U.S. State.

The guidelines for the project are listed below:

Students should:
- Label (correctly!) and color each regional map.
- On the back of each map or on a separate sheet of paper, students should list 5 interesting facts for each of the states in that region. Students will use classroom iPods or their own devices to research this information.
- Students will take this information at the end of the week and construct a persuasive travel brochure for the state of their choosing.

Attached below are copies of the NCAA Tournament classroom activity, regional maps, as well as the rubric for the travel brochure. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
