Franklin D. Roosevelt's "Fireside" Chats

We began today's class by constructing a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting the presidencies of Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Following this, we analyzed the election results and interpreted the importance of Roosevelt's win and his immediate goals. We listened to his first "Fireside" chat, rebuilding the confidence of the American people in the banking system. After listening to his address, students were asked to work with their shoulder partner to create a script for their very own "Fireside" chat rebuilding consumer confidence in some part of the economy during the Great Depression. We will work on this activity for two days and students will record their audio in the form of an online podcast.
